Life... in the idling lane [09 Jul 2009|03:09pm] luv4dragons [ mood | cranky ] [ music | None ] So I feel kind of like I'm stuck in limbo. I don't have a job, and no one in town seems to be hiring. I need more money for grad school, so I need a job. I need a car to transport me reliably, for said job and grad school. I don't have one. I'm not sure what school I want to go to for grad school. I'm not sure I want to go to grad school for an MFA in creative writing anymore... because it would make getting a PHD in literature that much harder and a longer and more expensive venture. And if I go for a masters/Phd in literature, what kind?? If I go Comparative literature, like my Bachelor's degree, the higher levels require that you are fluent and proficient at one or two languages, enough to do your own translating. Because they don't want you to work from already translated works, nevermind that somebody else does a better job translating it, no, they want you to do it yourself. But if I go with Children's Literature, I won't be able to do the thesis that I want to, because it's not really related to Children's literature. And I like being able to look at different cultures and timeframes, why the hell would I want to focus on one thing like English literature, or Medieval literature, or Rennaissance? ARGH. My head hurts. And I have to decide and make up my mind if I want to go to gradschool in the next year. 3 comments|post comment

Printmaking Notebooks! [06 Jul 2009|01:43pm] mouse2cat [ mood | accomplished ]  Ok so I have just listed my first set of notebooks with printed covers. They are cute, portable and only $15. I have only printed 5 so far but I can make more if these sell. Lovingly made with poor college friends in mind.  ETSY Honestly I am pretty excited about printing notebooks like this. I mean I would want one! Any ideas for the next set?  post comment

Book Cases [02 Jul 2009|04:53pm] luv4dragons [ mood | tired ] [ music | Flyleaf- Perfect ] Today's acomplishments... Went to home depot and bought extra lumber for bracing and trimwork on bookcases, got stain and shellack for same. Came home and cut the lumber into appropriate sizes. Dry-fit, glued, and nailed Dad's frame together. Cecked for squareness. Cut down 1/8th inch plywood for the backing on his bookcase. Glued and Nailed in place. Dry-fit, glued, and nailed my frame together, check for squareness, cut down 1/8th ply for my backing. Glue and Nail. Clean up shop. Clean up self. Still Have Mom's to do tomorrow morning. Ugh. post comment
